We Are Winter: A Winter Town Strategy
Overview
Winter shapes how we live, work, and connect in Canmore.
Guided by your feedback, ideas, and experiences, the Winter Town Strategy will identify opportunities to improve winter livability and provide a long-term roadmap for making Canmore safer, more accessible, and more vibrant during the winter months.
Context
Canmore's winters are a defining part of our community. They influence how we move around town, spend time outdoors, connect with others, support local businesses, and experience community life.
We are developing a Winter Town Strategy to better understand the opportunities and challenges associated with winter living and to identify ways to improve the winter experience for residents, businesses, and visitors.
The strategy will explore topics such as:
- Winter livability
- Accessibility and safety
- Community connection and vibrancy
- Public spaces and winter activities
- Winter-friendly design
- Economic resilience and winter business activity
- Celebrating Canmore's unique winter culture and identity
The final strategy will provide recommendations to Council for future planning and decision-making.
How We Will Use Your Input
Your feedback will help us understand how our community experiences winter in Canmore, what challenges exist, and where there may be opportunities for improvement.
Community input will be considered alongside:
- Research and best practices from other winter communities.
- Technical analysis.
- Existing Town plans, policies, and strategies.
What we hear throughout the engagement process will help inform the development of recommendations and future priorities for the Winter Town Strategy.
Following engagement, we will share a summary of what we heard and how feedback helped inform the strategy.
Get Involved
The people who live through Canmore winters bring valuable insight to this work. They know what works, what doesn't, and where opportunities exist.
There will be many opportunities to share your perspectives and help shape recommendations for the future of winter in Canmore.
