The Contest

After a long wait, we finally got a new ice re-surfacer (you might know this as a "Zamboni", but this one's an Olympia) for our indoor ice arenas at the Canmore Recreation Centre. It's way more energy-efficient and will get our ice looking better than ever with each sweep.

We need a name for our shiny new ride, and we want YOU to help us. So, we're holding a community contest.

Here are some characteristics of our new Olympia that might help with your brainstorming:

  • It's fully electric.
  • It uses one-tenth the energy (!) compared to its natural gas counterpart.
  • It's not stinky.
  • It's way quieter.
  • It's lower-maintenance.
  • It looks cool.

The rules: Names using profanity, explicit content, inappropriate references, or that are discriminatory or racist in nature will not be considered.

CONTEST CLOSES TUESDAY, DEC. 30, 2025 AT 4 P.M. MST.


Ways to Enter

There are three easy ways to enter the contest. Only one entry is needed on any one of these channels:

MyCanmore

Use our "Ideas" tool at the bottom of this page to submit your name idea.

If the winning name is selected from a MyCanmore entry, the winner will be contacted via the email provided or associated with their MyCanmore account after the community vote closes.

Instagram

Follow us on Instagram @canmoregov and comment on our contest post (pinned to the top of our profile) with your name idea.

If the winning name is selected from an Instagram comment, the winner will be contacted by our Town of Canmore Instagram account (@canmoregov) via direct message after the community vote closes.

In Person

Go to the Customer Experience Desk at the Canmore Recreation Centre (1900 8 Ave) to submit your name idea in the ballot box.

If the winning name is selected from a ballot box entry, the winner will be contacted via the contact information provided after the community vote closes.


Choosing the Winning Name

After contest is closed (Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.), our team will pick the top five names from the contest entries.

What we're looking for:

  • Creativity
  • Timelessness
  • Relevancy to the Canmore community

After that, it will be up to YOU, our creative community, to choose your favourite name from the top five. We'll open a poll on this page and you'll have a week to decide.

The winner will be contacted directly to come and pick up their prize from Elevation Place.

What You Could Win

Besides bragging rights, our lucky winner will get:

1. Their winning name added to the new ice re-surfacer for all to see.

2. A gift basket* from our Recreation Services team, including:

  • 1 water bottle
  • 1 roll of hockey tape
  • 1 hockey puck
  • 2 family day passes to Elevation Place
  • 1 pair of adult-sized Elevation Place socks

*You must be able to pick your prize up in person in Canmore within three weeks of the winner being announced.
