How will paid parking improve the experience at Quarry Lake?

The following are some of the ways paid parking will improve the user experience:

    • Encourages turn-over of parking spots on a regular basis.
    • Provides short-term parking for dog-walkers.
    • Provides short-term parking spots for pick-up and drop-off.
    • Funds ongoing maintenance of amenities at Quarry Lake Park.

Will paid parking be in place year round?

No. The proposal calls for paid parking to be in place from May long weekend to September long weekend each year.

What will the revenues be used for?

The revenues will be invested back into the park. They will go towards funding the ongoing maintenance of new infrastructure such as washrooms and garbage facilities. They could also be applied to different transportation initiatives that serve the area.

How will spillover into residential areas be managed?

We are aware that implementing paid parking at Quarry Lake will have a splillover effect on adjacent neighbourhoods. We are looking at a variety of options to address this including a Residential Parking Permit program, No Parking zones and short-term parking zones.

Will paid parking be in place seven days per week?

Yes. The initial plan envisions paid parking in place seven days per week from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. from the May long weekend until the September long weekend.

    Will dog-walkers have to pay?

The initial plan has 6 free spaces reserved for dog-walkers. The spaces will have a 1-hour time limit to encourage turnover.

    Will residents have to pay?

Yes. There is a finite amount of parking available at Quarry Lake, which cannot be reserved on a priority basis for residents.

Short-term parking for pick-up and drop-off as well as dog walking have been added to allow for those uses at no charge.

Why are there only six spots for dog-walkers in the initial plan?

The initial number of stalls for people walking their dogs was based off the trial changes made to the parking lot last summer.
