Climate Emergency Action Plan

A Pathway to a Resilient, Zero-Emission Future
We are advancing our commitment to climate action with a pathway to net-zero for our community. Our new Climate Emergency Action Plan outlines a climate-ready future for Canmore with a roadmap to address key climate hazards while enhancing our community’s resilience and well-being.
The plan, shaped by extensive community feedback from over 300 residents, provides a strategic framework for mitigating and adapting to climate change. It integrates climate change mitigation and adaptation through an equity lens to consider the diversity of our residents.
Actions to advance climate adaptation and mitigation, including boosting energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy use, and promoting sustainable transportation, are broken into several thematic areas. Key themes include:
- municipal leadership,
- energy-efficient buildings,
- renewable energy,
- natural space preservation,
- emergency preparedness,
- sustainable transportation, and
- efficient waste and water management.
This project was funded in part by the Government of Alberta, through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program. The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta.
